For our beach week, we focused on sand. The children enjoyed touching it
with their fingers and scooping it with theirs hands. For the most part they were really good at keeping in the box and following direction on how to play with it. We added shells and small plastic gems for them to look for in the sand and take them out. Chloe was
specially excited with the colors of the gems, she didn’t want to take them out of box, she just moved them instead.
We used our towels to lay on the grass and play pretend. We talked about being at the beach and seeing sharks, whales, crabs and seahorses. Noah suggested we’d go surfing and we all followed. We read a book while laying under the sun and thinking about the ocean.
Our final project of the week was sand art. We used shakers and glitter to produce wonderful pieces of art, everyone had great results! While outside we played beach volley ball and made sand castles. Wet sand created a new interest in sand on everybody and we
made wet balls, cookies and a big mess!
Finally we had a little friday fiesta. With a few instruments and scarfs we danced to the tunes of Caribbean music. It was great to see what great dancers we have in class. Elsa is now more comfortable with us and had a great time dancing all around class. Allison showed us that dancing is definitely her thing!
