A question I have been wondering lately and also getting from parents is how long should my 2 year old sleep. On average, children between the ages of 1-3 should sleep about 12 hours in a day which includes their nap. The best thing is to know your child and their moods. I know that my two year old really does much better when he has at least a 2 hour nap during the day plus 10-11 hours at night. That doesn’t always mean that he will get that much sleep but he is definitely in a much better mood.
Napping at this age is always tricky too because once you think you have it down, they will change on you. From 2 naps to one nap, morning to afternoon naps. Just do what works best for your children and your family. There is no right or wrong only guidelines.
Your toddler’s night waking could be rooted in poor sleep habits or a health problem. Sometimes perfectly normal, healthy toddlers will wake during the night as they go through different stages of development or experience separation anxiety.
