Here are the definitions from Meriam-Webster online:

Facilitator

One that helps to bring about an outcome (as learning, productivity, or communication) by providing indirect or unobtrusive assistance, guidance, or supervision

Teacher

One whose occupation is to instruct

(Instruct: to give knowledge to)

We started playing around with facilitator over a year ago and I know it will stick. We made the official switch for this school year and it feels really good. I never really liked the title teacher and I feel that I have always facilitated more than taught. This is a nice shift towards changing how we look at learning and education.

Renee Metty has over 20 years experience working with children in a variety of settings. She has a M.Ed in Early Childhood Education as well as a M.Ed in Special Education from Boston College and a degree in Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University.
