We hope you all had a nice Spring Break. Before break we had a lot of fun playing with paint. We did some finger painting, but we also used brushes and textured balls to create different shapes. We worked on tables and at the easel. Our children had a great time getting messy! Our week was full of colorful activities, we also used small pieces of paper to create spirals for our little ones and creative free designs for our older children.
Our preschoolers did a matching shape activities and mirror games. We used mirrors to make faces and show emotions. This is an activity we are repeating from previous weeks as it’s a successful way for our children to label and recognize emotions. We had some paper cutting exercises. Our preschoolers are starting to feel comfortable with scissors. It has been a slow process to help them with this. We constantly use scissors with our play-dough activities, but we have slowly introduced scissors for cutting on paper. Our children really enjoy using scissors and we are teaching them a safe use of this tool.
Our pre-K class has been working hard on their play for our BBQ. At first we thought it would be a surprise, but as you know some of our children have a harder time keeping a secret since we practice everyday. They seem to really be enjoying themselves. We are getting ready to make our props. If anyone has any costumes they would like to send in that would be great. We are looking for a turkey, duck, fox, king, chicken, and pig. They are also working on individual projects such as the continent map, name tracing and writing, weather chart, and math concepts. Our group also knows the whole phonics chart which incorporates all 44 sounds of the English language.
For our spanish classes we learned about colors with cloud puppets and read books about zoo animals and shapes. It has been a lot of fun to see the interest of our students learning our new spanish songs and words. They have a very positive attitude towards learning new things in Spanish and I’m really glad to see their daily interest and excitement. As we continue with our classes and our children feel more comfortable with the routine we hope to soon transition into a full spanish immersion.
