Our wonderful West Seattle Preschool was full of energy this week. Our children were active, energetic and ready to learn. We explored the backyard a bit and went on a nature walk. We collected leaves, flowers and bugs. The children were really into jumping. It started by jumping off of a rock, but then I added jumping over things. We jumped on colored dots and different numbers. We also tried to see how far we could jump. We jumped to fast songs and slow songs. The children seemed to love it all.
One of our focus this week was rhyming. We sang many rhyming songs like Down By the Bay, Itsy Bitsy spider (a crowd favorite) and I’m a Little Teapot. We also read some rhyming books like Silly Sally, Chicka, Chicka Boom, Boom and a couple Dr. Seuss books.
I introduced a couple new games both to help with the concept of color. Dino lotto was the first game. Each of the children had a card similar to a bingo card with 6 dinosaurs in different colors. Then I handed out individual cards with the same dinosaurs in different colors. We went through several rounds and the first person who filled their card won. The other game also involved colors- color sorting. I had crayon cutouts and little cards with pictures. Each child received 5 cards and I laid out 3 crayon colors. They took cards matching their pictures to the crayons. It was difficult to take pictures of the children playing the game because I was also playing but here are pictures of just the game:
