Last week we continued with our Halloween decorations, you can see them now decorating our classroom ceilings and walls. With our 3 day week group we made colorful ghosts and very spoooooky spider webs and black spiders. It was lots of fun! Ella was a little unsure of touching the plastic spiders (they look pretty real) but she quickly got on board and had a great time. All of our children enjoyed playing with the web and placing the spiders on the wall. Chris had some trouble getting stuck on our web, but had fun trying to get detached.
We also sponge painted orange paper pumpkins and hang them in our classroom, they are colorful and our children love looking at them! During circle time we included our calendar and sang the days of the week song. We also read “I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean” by Kevin Sherry.
In our large group time we read Eric Carle’s “From Head to Toe”. We had a great time bending our necks like giraffe’s, moving our heads like penguins, kicking like donkeys, being crocodiles, camels and monkeys.
Our pre-k children worked on shapes and lacing. We are working on those fine motor skills to help our writing skills. We also added Peter to our group and he is fitting in quite nicely. We also worked on some puzzles where the children were able to mix and match shirts, bottoms and shoes. They really enjoyed that activity.
Thursday’s group was also able to take a short field trip. We walked next door and sat on the sidewalk to watch the city work on the road. They loved seeing the men jackhammer and scoop up the cement. We also were able to see some of our neighbor’s cool Halloween decorations.
We were really excited to have our first parent storytime. Iliana’s mom was our first reader and read “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson. This is one of Iliana’s favorite books. Another great week at the Cove, your children are doing great. They are getting better with our routine and following direction. Next week we’ll star our fall crafts and activities.
