I post this with hesitation due to the outcome, but strongly believe in the message he is sending. Almost a week ago, this went viral and has taken me a few days to process. This short film is from David Foster Wallace‘s full commencement speech in 2005 at Kenyon College. Some have called him one of the most innovative and influential writers of the last 20 years. One of the greatest gifts we are given is the freedom to choose – to choose what we think and how we think, to choose our purpose and the outcome of our lives. Education should provide us the opportunities to learn this freedom. To be aware, to live in the moment has more than one realizes. It has the power to change the world.
