What a great week we had. The children are really getting the routine down. We had very successful circle times and work times this week. Our letter of the week was “S” and we talked a lot about all the words that begin with “S” like snow, sun, snakes and soup. You can continue this at home as well. We traced the letter “S” and wrote the letter “S” in the air with our finger. We sung our “S” song
Sing A Song Of Sunshine
Tune: Sing A Song Of Sixpence
Sing a song of sunshine,
Be happy every day.
Sing a song of sunshine,
You’ll chase the clouds away.
Be happy every moment,
No matter what you do.
Just sing and sing and sing and sing,
And let the sunshine through!
We also have been loving Erin Mitchell’s CD – You Are My Sunshine.
We have mastered the art of meditation. Our homemade timer is 2 minutes long and the children are able to sit and make their plan for their work time. They can close their eyes, watch the sand, listen to the sand or breathe in through their nose and out through their mouth as they think about which area they are going to choose (book, art, home, block or toy area). It brings a nice calmness to the room before they begin their work.
This timer is very easy to make. Just a $3.00 item from Lakeshore Learning , some sand and 2 water bottles.
Another great idea this week – the children became a little silly and started throwing the yogurt containers into the larger bins so we cleaned up and I took their tossing interest and brought out the beanbags. I taught them a bean bag toss game that they could play.
We are looking forward to learning about self-portraits next week and starting to see the progression of the children’s drawings and their likes and dislikes.
