Our first full week is underway and each day the children are more and more comfortable.
This week we continued to help our students be comfortable with our space, explore our backyard and get used to our daily routine. It was a constant improvement for them and overall they got better at interacting with each other, following direction and having fun!
Our daily activities included painting with crayons (Emma’s favorite), modeling play-dough (Gabriel’s favorite) building with blocks (Andrew’s favorite) and reading books (Ruby’s and Pete’s favorite) Olivia and Maggie really enjoyed our kitchen area and Chris was specially interested in the silverware pieces which he keep taken out and putting away. Layla and Ella really enjoyed taking care of the babies, feeding them and putting them to sleep. Overall they are discovering different ways of how to play with our class materials and they are having a lot of fun while in the process!
We also sang familiar songs like Itzy Bitzy Spider and Twinkle Twinkle Little star, again to help them feel comfortable and facilitate their adjusting process. We think it’s only going to get better from here on and they already seem to be having more fun each day, we had a great dance party on Friday, they all have great moves!

Our pre-K class is working on comparing and ordering(quantity), counting, number words and symbols, and representing (data analysis). We played a basket toss game and them toss bean bags into a bucket. After counting their bean bags as they tossed them, we counted aloud the number of baskets we made. Then we recorded them on a chart with stickers. Then we were able to count the stickers, label them with proper number symbol and compare more and less. They had a good time playing this game.

Many of you know I am very inspired by Montessori so I am introducing some Montessori work. The first presentation was using metal insets. We started with drawing the inside of the frame to help develop the child’s muscles for holding a pencil correctly, develop control and precision of movement and flexibility. This work gives them experience in counter-clockwise movements, parallel lines which assists in forming letters and drawing. This also lays a foundation for color and patterns.
