Our first of several summer camps this week – CAMPING! We played with the magnifying glasses and the flashlights. The children had a really good time looking for insects and spider webs on the backyard. We looked closely at small spiders and leafs, the children discovered a new world just by looking at it through the glasses. With the flashlights we looked under the bushes and darker areas around the playground. It was a surprise to them to find balls and toys laying around the bushes.
We painted stones and made frogs. They all had a great time with this activity. I hid the frogs around the backyard and everyone had a lot of fun looking for them. We finished our binoculars project by painting pieces of paper rolls and hanging them with string.
Following our week’s theme we talked about camping and outdoor activities like hiking, lighting a fire and setting a tent. We had daily picnics and used our tent as a gathering space for reading stories and singing camp songs. Rudy looked for flowers and enjoyed our Tiny goes camping story. Pete loved holding the flashlights and finding special spots behind the
trees.
