The past couple weeks have been filled with lots of excitement. We’ve been winding down the school year and it just seems like it is going so fast. We just finished parent conferences. A time a love because I get to tell parents all the wonderful things their children are doing and learning. We have our community BBQ this weekend – 1st annual I might add. We have been preparing for the salmon release – talking about where we are going to release them, how we are going to get there, how we act on the way to the park and what it means for our ecosystem. Here are a few shots:
The children were so excited and some even squealed with excitement as they felt the fish move in the net. It was neat to see some of the children incorporating the fish into their pretend play.
One of the books we have been reading is by one of my favorite authors Leo Lionni. Little Blue and Little Yellow is a story of two friends, blue and yellow, who hug and turn green.
This is a great story about friendship, but also a good intro to colors. One of our activities was experimenting with blue and green tempera paint. Some of the things I heard:
“Hey, it’s green”
“Where’s my yellow?”
“Yellow and blue make green”
I had them paint before we read the book. Here are some of their paintings:
Nothing more fascinating to me than children’s art work. Each one tells a different story, represents a different perspective. Really show how individual and unique each child is. We will do another painting now that they have heard the story several times and see if the paintings change and what kind of comments are made.
