We had a wonderful week off from The Cove School. To end the week, we finally saw Orca from our house. I just happened to look on the West Seattle Blog for some Easter activities for the day and the first post was about Orca sightings about 4 minutes prior from the Alki Lighthouse. The kids were in the middle of their snacks and we packed them up and headed to the water. We decided to go a bit south to Lowman Beach Park in hopes of catching a glimpse. Thanks to a pro watcher who had a gigantic camera lens, tripod and binoculars, he pointed out where to see them. Sure enough there they were. After a few glimpses, we headed down the Lincoln Park path towards the ferry. We were able to see them again off the southern tip of Blake Island. You could actually see the splashes with the naked eye. Through the binoculars we could see a few of the whales breaching. We realized that their location was pretty close to where the view from our home is so we decided to head home and bring out our telescope. They drifted closer to shore and closer to the Fauntleroy Ferry dock. It was amazing how close we were able to see them from our deck and living room. Truly a rare experience!
