This is what Time magazine (hits newsstands this week) is calling it. Huffington Post has referred to 2014 as the year of mindful living. A couple years ago it seemed to me mindfulness was becoming very mainstream, but realized I was seeing it everywhere because I had immersed myself in it. You know when that happens…you buy a certain kind of car and then you see it everywhere? I soon realized many people were and are still unsure about what mindfulness meant if they even heard of it at all. There are definitely pros and cons to this kind of surge, but it is exciting to see it grace the cover of such a popular magazine.
What is really exciting is the main program we use at The Cove to integrate mindfulness is mentioned in the article. You may have seen a post or two about how impressed I have been with the Mindful Schools organization. I am one of the fortunate ones to be participating in their year long certification program (inaugural class) and it truly has been an honor to have Chris, Megan, Vinny and Pam as my facilitators and mentors. Their program is amazing and deeply rooted in personal practice. The best part is that you and your family will be benefiting from my participation in their program. Stay tuned…our journey continues with finding pause.
Here is the excerpt from the TIME article talking about Mindful Schools:
“Educators are turning to mindfulness with increasing frequency–perhaps a good thing, considering how digital technology is splitting kids’ attention spans too. (The average American teen sends and receives more than 3,000 text messages a month.) A Bay Area-based program called Mindful Schools offers online mindfulness training to teachers, instructing them in how to equip children to concentrate in classrooms and deal with stress. Launched in 2010, the group has reached more than 300,000 pupils, and educators in 43 countries and 48 states have taken its courses online.”
